Portraits

My first two images where taken while me and three friends of mine when hiking in southern Utah about three weeks ago. I thought the idea of natural setups behind a portrait was the best way to go about it. I have never been a big fan of portraits with a simple white background. I tried to find images that had the ability to show how these two felt, while still having good texture in the backgrounds. The first one was of my buddy Ben. He was not a huge fan of me asking to take a portrait and he was actually mid-hitting the camera from my hand, however i think the picture worked out well. The other one of another buddy. I thought this picture showed how cold and miserable he was after a very long and cold day. I really liked the aspect of him sitting as well as being sideways. I thought black and whit was the best when to pull across the emotion of each photo, the color one's where almost dull by comparison.

The last one was taken a while ago with a tripod and different camera, however I always really liked this image as a portrait. It is of me and my friend ben(from above) just after i had shaved my head, he was disgusted by the site and i found myself cracking up over it.

  1. I like the first photo of your friend. He looks like a cool guy. I like how simple the picture is. I think you were right to go with the black and white. I did that as well, it puts all the focus right on the person in the photo.

  2. I really like your second photo of the guy with the bags. I like that aspect and the story that go with the photo. The angle is really interesting too because its almost not natural, like an oursiders perspective. I like your other photos too, nice variety.

  3. Loved the second photo! You definitely altered the perspective of it. I love how its taken from the side. Also the way he is sitting on the bags with his head down really shows different emotions. These photos are the best, when you feel something when looking at it!

  4. Sean, nice job with your portraits! I really like the black and white photos. The second one with your friend sitting on the bag is amazing! It has feeling and character, yet it is so simple and real.

    Nice job!

  5. I liked the first photo in black and white with the angle and distance it looks much like a self portrait.

Your second shot is great it reminds me of long ago when I sat by the roadside hoping a ride would come before I became a popsicle.

  6. I love the second photograph. The way he's sitting, and the angle you took the picture are great. And, there's a lot of angles in the photo, too, that bring your eyes to the center, where his face is. Nice job!

  7. Nice work. I really think that your intension with the second photograph is achieved. It sure seems sad, lonely and cold. I like the black & white as it gives a sense of a time long ago. The angle of the person sitting on the bag also gives an interesting aspect to the phhoto. Definitely lots of angles to your photos.
